sahara_langham_lSydney’s Langham Hotel is the height of luxury for humans and their furry friends. Located in the heart of Sydney, the Langham is the perfect getaway for the whole family, conveniently located close to the many attractions that this amazing city has to offer.

At the Langham, rooms are pet friendly, and come with luxury pet bedding, gourmet food and treats! (They do have human perks too like private terraces and luxurious bathrooms.)

Recently, our animal ambassador Sahara was lucky enough to spend a few nights at the Langham in Sydney, and her owner Dave tells us that she had an amazing time!

“When it comes to pet-friendly hotels, it doesn’t get much better than this” Dave says. “We had an amazing time, and Sahara of course, was treated like a princess by the team!”

Not only did she enjoy the spectacular views from her private balcony, she was treated to gourmet meals cooked just for her (and delivered to her room,) talk about luxury!

Sahara was truly in pet heaven, relaxing on her own custom-made Langham plush bed (pictured,) before heading out on the town to check out some of Sydney’s best pet-friendly attractions.

At the Langham, pet-sitting and dog walking services are also available on request.

It’s time to trade in your traditional walk for one to the dog beach. Brighton Dog beach is designated for dogs all year round, and it is fenced, so you don’t need to worry too much if your dog isn’t the best at recall. Just remember to leash your dogs as soon as you leave the fenced area.

Albert Park

Albert Park is a must see when visiting Melbourne. This lakeside park has several designated off the lead areas for you and your dog to enjoy. The park is equipped with dog-water taps and doggy-bag stations, (which is great for those days when you run out!)

Citizens Park
Location: Highett St, Richmond, 3121
Off the Lead: welcome at all times with the exception of during sports training and matches

Citizens Park is another great fenced dog park. Dogs are welcome to roam off the lead, as long as they are under effective control by their owners. This park is a local favourite for dog owners all year round. Make sure you do clean up after your dog, and keep an eye on them if they’re prone to digging holes. This park is also utilised as a sporting oval, so best to keep keen diggers on a lead to prevent any issues for those competing at the park.

Packing Checklist

Packing Checklist

Clever young black retriever at the office tableWhether you’re a last minute packer, or follow a regimented routine, when you’re going on a pet-friendly holiday, there’s an extra family member to pack for! Because you don’t want to arrive at your holiday destination to realise you’ve forgotten your pet’s favourite toy, we’ve put together a list of the essentials to pack when going on holiday with your pet!

Food

When travelling with your pets, it’s always a great idea to bring along some of their favourite foods and treats. We all know how hungry we get after a long drive or plane journey, and your pet probably feels the same too!

It’s a great idea to pack food that your pet is familiar with. Because they might feel a bit unsure when you arrive at your destination, their favourite food will help comfort them and help settle them into a normal routine (not to mention help avoid any tummy upsets.)

Toys

Almost all of our pets have a favourite toy. Whether it’s a tennis ball or teddy they sleep with at night, our pets all have that one toy that they are obsessed with! Make sure you pack it in your luggage, and surprise them with it when you arrive.

Bed/blankets

Bringing along your pet’s bedding and blankets where possible will really help them settle into their new holiday destination. Plus, it will help ensure that they (and the rest of the family) get a relaxed night’s sleep.

The Essentials

Before you leave home, make sure you’ve packed the essentials. If you’re travelling with your dog, you will need to bring along their lead, harness and seat belt if they will be travelling in cars. (In some cities, dogs must be restrained by seat belts while travelling in cars, so it’s always great to have one with you.)

And don’t forget the disposable poo bags for when you take your dog out for a walk.

If you’re travelling somewhere cool, it’s also a great idea to pack a coat, just in case your dog starts to feel the cold.

Exploring Pet-Friendly Sydney

 Exploring Pet-Friendly Sydney

Latte Coffee art and biscuit stick on the wooden desk.Sydney is Australia’s tourism capital for a reason. It’s beautiful beaches, stunning weather and bustlingculture and make for a great getaway for humans, and their pets too!

If you’re planning a holiday with your pet, here’s our list of must-dos while in sunny Sydney.

Beaches

Sydney is known for its iconic coastline and beaches. It would almost be a crime to visit this seaside city and not spend some time at the beach. Here are some must-dos:

  • Bondi to Bronte costal walk: if you’re looking for a walk that both you and your pup will enjoy, then the Bondi to Bronte is a must. The walk will take you about an hour and a half so make sure you bring along some water for your furry-friend. There are plenty of places to rest and enjoy the scenery if all that exercise is making you feel a bit ‘ruff’.
  • Sirius Cove, Mosman: This may just be the ultimate pet-friendly beach. Sirius Cove has plenty of shaded grass areas for those pups that prefer to stay on dry land. For those keen to take a dip, unleashed dogs are permitted on the beach and in the water all day Monday to Friday, and before 9am and after 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays.

Pubs and cafés

While holidaying in Sydney, visiting its trendy pubs and cafes is essential! You don’t need to worry about leaving your furry-friend behind;well-behaved pups are welcomed at most outdoor venues.

Here’s a list of our favourites:

  • The Grounds of Alexandria, 7A, 2 Huntley St, Alexandria
Pop into the Potting Shed with your pup for a cold beverage (as long as they’re on a leash) or stop by the café terrace if coffee is your vice.
  • Honest Don’s, 2A McCauley St, Thirroul
If the thought of puppychinos and liver treats get your dog excited then this café is perfect for your pup.
  • Cuckoo Callay, Newtown Railway Station, 324A King St, Newtown
If you’re thinking about making the trip to Newtown then a visit to Cuckoo Callay is a must. Sit out in the sun with your pup and treat them to maple-bacon biscuits, which almost sound good enough for us humans to eat too.
