How Long Before I Can Collect My Pet from The Airport?

When travelling interstate across Australia, most pets can be collected within an hour upon arrival. This may vary from time to time depending on the weather, ground crew operations, airport taxi timings and the location of the designated collection point from the arrival aircraft terminal.

For International arrivals this process can take several hours to the customs and quarantine processes in place and will vary depending on the location you are moving to. Due to the complex nature of International pet travel, it is highly recommended that you speak with our pet travel consultants to explain the process and clearance procedures for your specific location.

Where Are My Pets Kept Prior To Take Off?

Pets have a dedicated area that airlines allocate to ensure the safe housing of pets prior to their flights. Airlines will make sure that these areas are undercover and separate from general cargo areas. Airline staff will also perform regular checks on their welfare and top up water bowls where necessary.

Will My Pet Be Checked On The Plane?

When booking your pets travel our team will liaise with the airlines to ensure your pet is booked onto its flight. We will also issue you with your very own pet travel itinerary to ensure you have all the details you require for your pets travel.

Pets moving interstate and overseas will have different procedures and it is important that you engage a pet travel specialist to assist you in the process and make sure all documentation is in place and your crate is airline approved for travel.

Where Is My Pet During The Flight?

Pets are housed and secured in their very own section of the plane and both the captain and the ground staff are advised that your furbaby is on board. As pets travel in a dedicated area in the cargo section of the aircraft, they will not have any direct access to aircraft crew for their travel whilst in the air.

Pets are carefully loaded onto the aircraft at the very last minutes prior to departure to avoid any exposure to weather conditions.  They are first to be unloaded at the destination to be reunited with their owners or collected by Jetpets Pet Handlers who are then delivered to their residence.

Does My Pet Fly Direct Or Have A Stop Over?

Depending on your destination and airline carrier, many pets may travel direct to their destination on flights for both domestic and overseas travel. Where longer haul flights are required there may be a stop over, often referred to as a “comfort Stop” and this will be discussed with you at the time of quoting with our specialist Pet Travel Consultants.

Our Pet Travel Consultants will design a specific travel itinerary for you and take into account factors such as the age, breed and destination you are travelling to ensure pet welfare is the number one priority for your furbaby during their travel.

What Airlines Allow Pets In The Cabin?

When moving your pets from Australia, pets must travel in dedicated airline travel crates in the cargo section of the plane. The travel crates are designed to ensure your pet is comfortable and has adequate space to sit, stand and turn around in their crate for their journey. They also have a water bowl and stay dry fleece mat to assist them for their comfort during longer haul flights.

What Airlines Carry Pets?

Virgin and Qantas are the two major airlines that regularly carry pets to all capital cities and many regional locations around Australia. When travelling to more remote areas, there may be some alternatives and it is best to speak with your pet travel consultant for more information on these locations. Please note that Jetstar do not facilitate pet transportation.

Jetpets work with all airline partners to ensure the number one priority is the welfare of your pet, no matter which airline you may choose to fly with.

When booking with Jetpets we will give you the option of both major carriers depending on the flight availability and locations you are travelling to and from. Our Pet Travel Consultants will guide you on the best airline available to you depending on the breed, location and individual requirements as the costings will vary depending on the airline being used.
