Defence relocations are often during the busiest time of the year in the sky! The weather can also be unpredictable and travel schedules sometimes change. If required, Jetpets can arrange boarding before or after your pet’s flight, ensuring they are cared for in a safe, cool and comfortable environment until they are ready to continue their journey or be reunited with your family.
Introducing your pet to their travel crate several weeks before departure can help them feel more comfortable on travel day. Leave the crate open at home with their favourite blanket, bedding or toys inside, and maintain their regular routine where possible. It’s also important to allow plenty of time for any required vaccinations for boarding, veterinary appointments or microchip updates.
We recommend contacting Jetpets as soon as you know a Defence posting is on the horizon, even if your travel dates haven’t been confirmed. Starting the planning process early allows our team to discuss your options, answer any questions and prepare any boarding requirements your pet may require.
Jetpets has been assisting Defence members for over 30 years by helping them select safe and trusted boarding facilities across Australia. We understand that plans can often change when relocating and waiting for a DHA property, which makes boarding a critical part of the process for Defence members moving interstate.
Jetpets works with many reputable service providers across the country to ensure your pets are well cared for and comfortable during their stay. Please note that all pets must have up-to-date vaccinations to be accepted into boarding facilities. This includes F3 vaccinations for Cats and C5 vaccinations for Dogs.
To avoid any delays, please ensure your vaccination certificates are current and easily accessible when booking your move. Many boarding facilities will not accept bookings without this documentation.
Defence members are eligible to have pet transport costs re-imbursed by the Defence force (which is administered by Toll Transitions) in most cases, providing they are complaint with the posting guidelines.
According to PACMAN regulations, pets can only be relocated by commercial providers specialising in pet transportation, such as Jetpets Animal Transport. The companies must have the following:
Pet relocation benefits may be paid either in advance or after the move is completed. To receive payment beforehand, Defence members must submit a quote or invoice from an approved pet transport provider to Toll Transitions for approval. Alternatively, reimbursement can be arranged after the relocation by providing a receipt confirming the services were carried out.
The Defence team at Jetpets will issue a tax invoice that Toll Transitions will require in order to make your claim process easy. The invoice is detailed to include your pet transport and any pet accommodation services you may need to claim as part of your posting.

Our team will assist you with selecting the right size travel crate for your pets. These need to be complaint with airline regulations where your pet can sit, lie down and turn around inside their crate comfortably.
Our Defence team can assist in booking collection and delivery of your pets, flights and any pet accommodation you may require across Australia and the world! It is important to note that pet accommodation during peak times can be booked out, so it is important to try and plan well in advance of your posting where practical.
Once you have all your details in place we will then issue with a TOLL approved tax invoice to ensure that you can claim your pet relocation costs in line with your policy allowances.
