What Is A Comfort Stop?

Depending on the destination and airline being used, there may be an option for your pet to have a comfort stop during their long-haul travel. Comfort stops allow your furbaby to have time out of their crate, a short walk around the purpose-built facilities (dependant on certain locations) and time for their very own toilet break in between their journey. The comfort stop will also provide your pet with a small meal and fresh water for their onward journey.

Speak to a Jetpets Pet Travel Consultant who will inform you if your pet requires a comfort stop as part of their overseas journey.

Where Do I Collect My Pet When They Land?

There is no better feeling then when you are reunited with your furbaby at their final destination. As customs and quarantine processes will differ from each overseas destination, it is critical that you have all the correct documentation and information the authorities will require to release your furbaby to you upon arrival.

Our Jetpets Pet Travel Consultants will be able to give you the required information and service options to assist you with this important process. We can also arrange transportation to your new residence should you not be able to transport your furbaby once they arrive.

Travel Crate Training

Where possible, several weeks in advance we suggest you come and collect your crate from our Transit Lounge.  Placing the crate in a familiar spot where your pet is frequently around will help with this new introduction. Placing a favourite toy, blanket  or even their treat bowl inside the crate will help the progression. We recommend that you take the door off to start, as this will help them understand that they can come in and out of the crate at their leisure.

It is important not to “force” pets into the crates as they need to understand that the crate is a safe place. Animals are naturally curious so they will tend to explore the crate when it is placed in their surrounds and may enter on their own accord when they are ready. It is important that when they do this you praise them and perhaps give them a small treat and reward them, making it a pleasant experience for them.

Once your pet becomes comfortable in and around the crate, try feeding them their meal inside the crate and even let them sleep in the crate overnight. This will give them a sense of comfort about their crate and get them ready for their international travel.

Travel Crate Selection

Ensuring your furbaby is comfortable with their travel crate is extremely important.  Our Jetpets Pet Travel Consultants will assist you with making sure your pet has the right sized crate for their journey where they are able to sit, stand and turn around and the crate is IATA complaint for the airlines to approve their travel.

Some customers underestimate the importance of selecting the appropriate crate size as this will not only affect the comfort for your furbabies journey, but when you have a crate too small for travel, the airlines may reject the crate at time of lodgement and cause delays and unnecessary stress for you and your furbaby.

How Can I Prepare My Pet Returning To Australia?

It is important to understand that Australia has one of the strictest processes in the world when it comes to importing pets into the country. It is imperative that you are aware of the process to re-enter Australia after you have left.

If you intend to move your pet back to Australia at any stage, there can be more than six months veterinary work in preparation for the move, depending on which country you are returning from. To reduce this timeframe you can arrange a Rabies vaccination and a Rabies blood test prior to leaving Australia. Jetpets can coordinate this vetwork for you if required. What Vaccinations Does My Pet Need To Fly?

When preparing for your pets overseas travel there are few things you can do to make the process easier for both you and your pet. The first thing is to make sure you have all of your pets’ vaccinations up to date and all vaccination documentation on file, as our vets and Government departments will require these for export authority and arrival clearances. It is also important that you have your pet microchipped as this will be required for travel. We request that original copies by available as likely a requirement of importing country.

What Vaccinations does my pet need for International Travel

When travelling overseas it is important that your pets are up to date with their vaccinations as each country will have their own requirements for entry. Depending on the country you are travelling to, your pet may need multiple vaccinations and treatments. It is a requirement for most destinations that your pet has a Rabies vaccination and C5 for Dogs and F3 for Cats up to date, especially if they are requiring to stay in overnight in pet accommodation.

Our Jetpets Pet Travel Consultants will guide you through this process and advise what will be required.  We have our own Vets in all of our Transit Lounges across Australia who can look after this for you!

Medications & Health Conditions

Heading

If your pet has been prescribed any medication and/or suffers from any health conditions It is important that you advise your Jetpets Pet Travel Consultant prior to your booking.  This information is required to be on their file for the safety and welfare of your travelling pet.  Our Vets will administer any medications prior to their departure if required and our Pet Handlers will ensure that the medications are in-toe with your pets crate.
